Youth Services

NIHWA will collaborate with communities to provide programs, and opportunities that are grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing.

NIHWA’s programing will be designed to strengthen and amplify the voices of Indigenous youth.

Programing will consist of:

  • NIHWA youth programs supports strengths-based, community-focused, and youth-led projects taking place in communities across Canada.
  • NIHWA has youth groups/collectives (comprised of Indigenous youth ages 15-29) that are eligible to apply for funding to support community programs and projects.
  • NIHWA youth will receive innovative mentorship, training, and capacity-building opportunities/skills.
  • NIHWA’s youth programs will provide the opportunity to learn and be well versed in Indigenous Policy and forms of Research to support their community needs.
  • NIHWA will provide opportunities for youth-led and community-focused researchers to undertake research projects that address the most pressing questions/needs facing reconciliation in their communities and across Canada
  • NIHWA’s youth programs aims to advance the personal and professional capacity of Indigenous youth (16-25). The program is specifically designed for youth across Canada who have limited access to education and employment opportunities.
  • NIHWA aims to create spaces for youth to access programming that nurtures cultural connection and the concept of (w)holistic wellness.
  • NIHWA provides programming that focuses on traditional knowledge, storytelling, land-based education, and arts-based workshops. 
  • NIHWA will provide three days events that will bring youth together from across the country to learn, have fun, and be open to improving relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada in a safe space.

Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth will have the opportunity to participate in Youth-led workshops and be provided resources that are focussed on:

  • Intergenerational Events
  • Outings Focused on Reconciliation
  • Indigenous history
  • Cultural Revitalization
  • Disseminate Stereotypes
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Decolonization
  • LGBTQ+/2SLGBTQI+
  • Financial Planning

NIHWA will provide programs for youth/families on financial skills to help more members of Native communities adapt traditional skills to financial management through workshops on:

  • Building a healthy economy
  • Developing a spending plan
  • Working with checking and savings accounts
  • Understanding and accessing credit
  • Investment Readiness Programs
  • Entrepreneurship

NHWA helps clients at any age in crisis during evening and weekend hours to provide intervention, one-to-one support, and crisis services through:

  • Virtual Calls
  • Phone calls
  • Provides Resources
  • Connection to Services
  • Circles of Support
  • Mediation
